Pre-op Pumpkin Pie

Tis the Season for PUMPKIN PIE!

As a special treat, before Tanner goes surgery in the morning, my favorite 3-year old (today, at least :)  and I made a pumpkin pie.  Not only did this allow us to celebrate our creation tonight, but it was also a bribe for tomorrow's "scarwy" procedure (as in, "when you wake up after surgery, we can have MORE PIE!  Yay!"  I assure you it is very exciting :)

Tanner has made pumpkin pie before, with her dear Dandy's guidance. She fancies herself a Pumpkin Pie Making Expert, I assure you!  Between that and the times she's helped Daddy make zucchini bread, she knew she should help measure and pour all the ingredients (which means our measurements were a *smidge* off :)

Merrily stirring all her ingredients

At one point, I turned to see her eating parts of every ingredient - she tasted sugar, cinnamon, and ginger, and when I asked her why she was doing it, her only reply was "because it tastes good, Mommy."  Why Of Course.

Stirring takes concentration!
After the dry ingredients, eggs, and pumpkin were added, it was time for the evaporated milk.  I told her she had to pour in little bits, then stir, and she followed directions VERY well (for once :)

Once everything was mixed, we had to roll out the pie crust.  Tanner LOVED this part.

Me:  Tanner, I want to take a picture of you pinching the pie crust.
Tanner:  No, Mommy.  Take a picture of me eating the pie crust.

(you think I'm joking, but that was *literally* the conversation)

YUM!  We won't think about the chances of salmonilla.

Finally, the pumpkin pie was finished!  Topped off with a dollop of "Cool Cream" (as Tanner calls it), it doesn't get better!
Looks to me like a satisfied Pumpkin Pie Eater!
(after eating all her veggies, of course :)

Ellery got her first taste of pumpkin pie as well...she liked it alright and came back for a few bites.  You can still see some remnants on her face :)

Another satisfied customer!
Happy Pumpkin-Pie-ing!
