| Cooper Wayne Hurliman, a few days old |
With bambinos, you celebrate a lot of firsts.
The first time you hold you first baby.
| Almost 7 hours after having her, I get to hold my sweet Tanner Kay. |
The first time you are so scared because your baby is soooo sick.
| My sweet Ellery, 5 weeks old. |
The first time you realize your family is complete.
| Meet The Hurlifam :) |
There are first crawls, first words, first steps, and first tantrums. Firsts abound in the world of motherhood - every day you look, and your kiddos are doing something they weren't the day before.
<cue nostalgic music>
But with that last baby, the one that completes the puzzle that is your family, you also have the bittersweet task of celebrating lasts - and celebrating your last first birthday is definitely a bittersweet moment!
When did this sweet Hurliboy become less baby and more toddler?
To celebrate Coop's big milestone, we threw a MONSTER of a party :)
| Big Cake |
| Smash Cake! |
| Cupcakes |
FRUIT MONSTER! (my very.favorite.thing!) |
...and had a MONSTER good time!
| A lil' Corn Hole playin' by Lil' Wayne |
| Standing around waiting for the sprinklers :) |
| Coop and his girlie Gia |
| Playset FUN! |
| MONKEY FUN! |
We also celebrated the Six Stages of First Cake:
| 1. I guess I'll try it. |
| 2. It's not too bad. |
| 3. Actually, it's quite tasty. |
| 4. GIVE ME AS MUCH CAKE AS POSSIBLE. |
| 5. Oh wait, that might have been too much. |
| 6. Cake Coma. |
But don't worry - Coop rallied for gifts.
| Wait - is Cooper opening gifts or are his sisters? |
| Never you mind, I found a truck. |
| And another truck. |
| And now there are TWO trucks and I cannot be bothered to pay attention to anything else going on around me. |
And then Cooper promptly sugar-crashed and napped away the rest of the afternoon. Happy Day, big one year old.
As nostalgic as this last first birthday is, I know there are still a LOT of firsts in our future (and lots of firsts in walking and talking for Cooper, the boy who lets his sisters cater to his every whim! :) Before you know it we will have first crushes, first ballgames, and first dates (ohmylordhelpme). The thought of never having another wee who turns one pulls at my heartstrings a bit, even though I am equally as excited that our little family is growing up. Now on to celebrating last diapers, last pacificers, and last sippy cups!
The last one is ONE!
Hooray! :)

I know it's hard, momma. But, as I've told other moms... don't weep with sadness at the baby who isn't there any more. Weep with pride that he's so big and strong and such a perfect part of your family. He is turning into the little man he's supposed to be, but he can't do it alone. He needs all four of you to get him there.
Happy First Birthday, Coop : ) I teared up a bit reading your post. Our sweet babies don't stay babies for long, but what joy we get seeing them turn into fantastic little people. Loved the monster theme! And as I said before, you are so talented my friend! You are truly blessed to be the mommy of those cute lil' Hurlikids! Enjoy every sweet moment : )
