The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly UPDATED!

UPDATE: I updated this to include Tanner's biking pictures, which I had all keyed up to put in here but forgot.  I blame it on how late it was when I finally finished writing this post.  You'll have to read the whole thing over to find them :)

Just to get it over with, let's start with The Bad:

1)  I lost my planner.

Technically, this may be a carry-over from a previous week, but I didn't realize it was lost until THIS week.  So THIS is the week it really sucked.  I have all but given up hope on finding my poor little planner, but I hope it is out living its life to the fullest, carefree from the constrains of my purse.  Maybe it hopped a train to Vegas, ya just never know.

2)  I broke my sunglasses.

Seriously, sunglasses?  You had to pick THIS week to break?  Lame.  And unoriginal.  Stop trying to steal the limelight from Agenda Planner.

3)  I knowingly ate ham.

After being a vegetarian for roughly 10 years, tonight John bought me soup that had ham in it.  It's understandable - I mean, he's only known me a few months and we've hardly had time to get to know each other.  :)  Granted, I didn't have to eat it (but it was Asiago Cheese Bisque - how could I resist?), and I tried to pick all the ham out; however, my stomach is clearly stating that I didn't get it all.

4)  I AM SUPPOSED TO BE IN FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!

As of June 6th, I am technically off work until June 20th.  That is right at two whole weeks off work.  Two whole weeks off work during a summer of working at UCH where vacation is hard to come by.  Two whole weeks off work that I was supposed to spend with the fam on the beach.  But instead, it is two whole weeks of being a SAHM!  Damn you, airlines, for jacking up your ticket prices.

5)  Ellery is sick.

I know, this isn't really anything new.  The kid is sick.  Move on, right? :)  But boo, she's sick.  AGAIN.  And up all night.  AGAIN.  Didn't she get the memo that it is summer???

So there's the bad stuff.  Just ask John, I've been pretty whiny about all of it! :)

Now, I promised you good things!

The second arm of the week has been quite the opposite of the first.

1)  My kids were good.

Seriously.  My kids were good.  They were so good I was utterly amazed by their goodness.  You might even say they were *kind* to their dear ol' mum.  For example, on Thursday there wasn't even ONE meltdown prior to leaving for gymnastics (pre-gymnastics meltdowns are standard operating procedure, so you can imagine my surprise).  Then we went to Target and they both behaved without consequence (what was this, opposite land?)  Friday was more of the same, and on Saturday Tanner was SOOO good that I let her not take a nap (in case you don't know, Friday's are the usual "no-nap" day, so this week was special because she got TWO no-nap days.  This is BIG STUFF when you are three! :)  So YAY!  My kids were good.  You can't even call that a "small victory"; you gotta go ahead and say that is pretty daggum monumental.

Look how cute I am!  And happy!

Me, too!  I LOVE being a good girl this week!

We're so good, AND we're doing cute, funny things!
Like standing in things Daddy uses for brewing! :)

2)  John and I got a lot of yard work done.

This is an important victory because in a few weeks, we're having our annual HurliParty!  Our yard has to be in tip-top shape, for sure.  And since John is leaving next weekend to go to a bachelor party in St. Louis, this weekend was a must-get-stuff-done weekend.  For my part, I got all the mulch put out and new perrenials planted (for some reason my perrenials have a habit of dying after one year...thus necessitating more perrenials every year.  Ya, I don't get it either).

3)  I bought a BUNCH of flowers!

Helping Momma plant petunias

In an effort to make myself feel better, I went to Home Depot (with my Tanner tag-a-long) and bought WAAAAAY more flowers than needed!  Tanner loved helping and she would frequently ask, "Mommy, aren't these beautiful?  I think these pink flowers are just beautiful."  She particularly liked dahlias and pansies, the flowers that sing in "Alice in Wonderland" (but for some reason she calls pansies "monster flowers" because of their dark middles.  It took me the longest time to figure out what she was talking about).  We ended up buying lots of petunias, zinnias (another TK fave because there are "little flowers" around the middle), and impatiens.

Mental note:  get that vein on my forehead fixed,
and avoid pics without makeup.
But it's kindof cute (of TK).  And relevant to topic.
I also bought myself a geranium, because geraniums remind me of my Momma and Mimi.  Since I'm supposed to be spending the week with them and instead am stuck at home, I decided I deserved a geranium!  :)

4)  Tanner learned how to pedal!

Finally, finally!, Tanner learned how to pedal her bike!  She's a pretty bright girl, so I've always been surprised that she can't figure out pedaling - she's pedaled on her tricycle since the end of last summer, but couldn't ever figure out the bike (where the pedals move independently of the wheels).  Now we have to work on steering - another concept that my otherwise very bright 3-year-old can't seem to master (not on her bike, not in her Jeep, nowhere does the girl grasp steering!)

So proud of her pedaling :)

Check out all her safety gear.
Safety FIRST! :)

Pedal, Pedal, Pedal

It takes concentration!
Now that she can pedal, she looks almost too big for her bike!

5)  KINDNESS.

This month's Fruit of the Spirit is KINDNESS so there is a lot of talk at our house about being kind.  This has been a very nice thing, as we are all trying really hard to be kind!  How can you stay grumpy when your 3-year-old is continually trying to do things so that she can ask, "Was that kind, Mommy?  I was being kind, wasn't I?"  She always needs her credit - when is the HUMBLENESS Fruit of the Spirit? :)

So there you have it, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (I posted that picture of my awful, makeup-less vein, didn't I?)  Maybe this week my planner will show up.  Maybe Mom will snag me some new sunglasses in Florida (hint, hint!)Or maybe we'll just continue to practice kindness at our house, and in the end we'll all have better weeks.

I do know one thing for sure, though - I'm NEVER, EVAR, eating ham again.  :)
